History - Details
Dr. Kade was founded during a period of general economic optimism, when the pharmacist Dr. Franz Lutze purchased Dr. Kade's Oranien-Apotheke in Berlin in 1886. A medium-sized pharmaceutical company quickly developed during the subsequent years of industrial expansion. Overseas exports successfully established the company in the world market at an early stage.

The immunological Bacterial Culture Suspension developed by Dr. Kade’s own research work was first used for therapeutic purposes in 1920. It was the starting point for a whole range of medicines that have remained relevant in several areas of treatment up to the present day. The first preparation that developed out of this innovation was Posterisan®, which was launched in 1922.
The year 1923 marked the beginning of another important period in the company's history, as the establishment of business relations with the Japanese company Maruho led to a revival of the export business.

International success and dynamic growth made
it necessary to expand plant capacity. In 1962, a branch plant was built in Constance, and the Berlin plant was modernized in accordance with the latest technological standards.
Twenty years later, the owner family's tie-up with the company's roots led to the decision to establish a modern pharmaceutical plant in Berlin. A new administrative building was opened, together with a state-of-the-art production plant.

In the late 1980s, a phase began in which new business areas were developed in addition to the production and distribution of Dr. Kade’s own preparations. In the course of the following decade, the need to adapt to current market trends led to a German-French joint venture with Besins Healthcare for marketing products in the fields of gynecology (Dr. Kade/Besins Pharma) and to collaborations with globally operating companies, e.g. Schering and Jenapharm in the field of gynecology.
By launching innovative products, Dr. Kade continued consistent expansion in its therapeutic fields in Germany. In 1997 the first progestin product for female hormone replacement therapy containing natural progesterone was introduced into the German market. An estradiol gel for female hormone replacement therapy was launched in Germany in 1998. Furthermore, an innovative (multiple-unit) pellet formulation for a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) was in-licensed from Astellas Deutschland in 2000. In 2002 Dr. Kade entered into agreements with Schering Deutschland and Jenapharm that cover three different gynecological products for female hormone replacement therapy. In order to strenghten the competence of Dr. Kade in the field of pain treatment an analgesic with flupirtine was launched in cooperation with AWD.pharma in March 2005.
Today Dr. Kade is the leading supplier of progestins, gynecological antifungals and anti-hemorrhoidal products in Germany. In the international field, the company operates successfully in Asia, as well as in Central and Eastern Europe.
